SMT: What I Use To Shoot Videos

Shooting video has been been a passion of mine for quite awhile. I remember using a Super 8 camera to shoot movies with the neighbor kids when I was in the 8th grade. (sometime I need to get those uploaded and let the world see my work :) ) I used to have a small editing machine that had a light in the middle and two take-up reels on the left and right. And the I would slice the film with a razor blade and tape the splice back together. If I had then what we have now as far as shooting equipment and editing software, there's not telling where I would have ended up.

But no sour grapes here. My love affair with the film/video camera continues and in this video, I hope to help those of you who are wanting to start using video, but don't know how to get started. Special thanks to Chuck Wheelock for asking the question that got this post started. Chuck's Twitter handle is @chuckwheelock. Sorry for goofing up your Twitter handle in the video.

Reference links to products I mentioned in the video:
Kodak Zi8
Canon Powershot A630
Steve Garfield's GET SEEN
Daisy Whitney's New Media Minute
Audio-Technica Pro 88W Wireless Microphone System
Tabletop Tripod

What do you use to shoot your videos with? This blog continues to be written by you...

#SMTulsa Meetup

On Saturday morning, I drove down to Tulsa to participate in Cheryl Lawson's (@partyaficionado) Social Media Tulsa Meetup. The meetup was held in the Dilly Deli patio area (first time I had been to Dilly Deli...nice place).

While there I had the opportunity to interview Cheryl Lawson. Cheryl has done a great job building up the social media community in Tulsa. As it turns out, she was in the audience when I spoke at the #140conf - LA last year. What a small world. I really appreciate Cheryl asking me to speak on a panel along with Doug Stewart and Mandy Vavrinack on the subject of finding you blog voice.

Here is Cheryl talking #SMTulsa and what it;s all about.

Mandy gave a presentation on location-based services and how to use them/avoid pitfalls. She did a great job. One term I will remember is "geo-fencing" I'll let her explain it in the following interview.

After the meeting, there were lots of people making connections and reuniting with old friends. You can see the slideshow of the #smtulsa event here.

And below you can see some of my iPhone photography in action.

Beautiful Downtown Tulsa.

Cheryl Lawson, putting it all together.

My name tag. I thought it was clever how Cheryl incorporated the QR code in the middle of the nametag. Can you tell what it says?

It was good to see my good friend Patrick Allmond and his wife. Patrick has spoken to the Bartlesville Marketing & Communications Assoc, of which I am a member.

Mancy Vavrinak letting everyone know just how large a blog can be, (inside joke)

Cheryl Lawson laying down the law at the beginning of the meeting.

Mrs. Allmond and Mandy enjoying breakfast before the meeting begins.

My view from the panel position.

Michael Butler, who I have followed for a long time and finally got to meet.

This is were I stop and you start. Please add your thoughts and feedback to this post in the comments below.

SMTV: How To Use @Whrrl

I've been on a Whrrl kick lately and rightfully so. I like the photo-taking features and the story-telling aspects.

If you are interested in Whrrl (@whrrl) and want more info on how to use it, take a look at the following video and let me know what you think. Is this enough to entice you to use the location-based app? How do you think it could be used for business?

SMTV - Foursquare Mayors and Churches

Here are some thoughts on how churches might reward their Foursquare mayors.

Do you have any other ideas on how churches might reward their members who use location-based apps?

SMTV: Why Northeast Oklahoma Businesses are Not Using Foursquare

This was a hard video to shoot. I was just not feeling it, and it probably shows, but it was important to create the content, discipline myself to create and push on through. It didn't help that I had popped a blood vessel in my right eye (Dr Bussey says everything is fine) and I look like some kind of pitiful vampire.
So I want to thank my 1 reader for hanging in there and being a faithful viewer. Thanks man. I appreciate you.

Why businesses are slow to adopt Foursquare in the Midwest area.
I think it's for a couple of reasons
1. they don't know it's out there
2. If they do know it's out there, their too busy to stop and take a look at what it's all about
3. if they do stop and take a look, they may not be sure out to go about putting together a small campaign to help themsleves.

And so this is why I'm creating this vlog...so small town business owners can quickly discover and learn how to use new marketing tools to make for money for their business.

Why do you think? Any thoughts as to why businesses in this area seem slow to use these new location-service tools? Am I sitting too close to the camera? To far away?

The gas stations, Murphy USA are using Whrrl as the vehicle for their loyalty program. It will be interesting to see how successful they are using this type of loyalty program. Will punch-cards work better in the Midwest?

You've Been Notified - Whrrl and Notifications

The geo-location service, Whrrl, makes leaving Recommendations fun and easy. And when people re-recommend, Want-To or become your friend, Whrrl's Notifications button is there to let you know.

Have you used Whrrl yet? What did you think?

SMTV: Intro to Whrrl

With all the trouble Foursquare has been having lately with marketers trying to get in touch with the burgeoning company, it was refreshing to be able to pick up the phone and get in touch Whrrl's Community Manager, Jeanna Barrett to discuss a problem I was having. The problem was solved in a matter of minutes.

Thanks Jeanna. Sorry I got your name wrong at the first of the video.

Have you used Whrrl before? What's been your experience? Your comments and feedback are welcome in the Comments below.

SMTV: Celeste talks about Fox 23's Chera Kimiko Getting Scared

Last night we were watching Fox 23 live broadcast from Bartlesville's Hot Street Party and everything was going fine until a clown showed up for an interview. It was obvious this scared Chera Kimiko, the Fox 23 Co-anchor, in a big way.

Celeste offers her thoughts on the matter.
